SEND

(Provision for children with Special Education Needs and Disabilities)

At St Josephs we aim to provide high quality education for all the children who attend our school. It is recognised that many children at some time in their primary education will have additional needs that need to be addressed by the school.

A child has Special Educational Needs if they have a learning difficulty, behavioural difficulty, physical difficulty, SEMH (Social Emotional Mental Health Needs) or medical problems which calls for special educational provision to be made for them. We actively remove barriers to children's learning by delivering Quality First Provision that is differentiated and highly personalised in an inclusive setting.

Our SENDCo is Mr Burton who has overall responsibility for SEND. The Governor appointed to have particular oversight of SEND within school is Mrs Benwell, who works closely with Mr Burton with regard to the SEND provision in school and has a professional background in SEND. We believe in a close partnership between home and school. Therefore, if you have any concerns about your child, speak with your child's class teacher. Further meetings may then be arranged with the SENDCo to gather more information, provide advice or discuss actions that may be needed to support your child's learning and wellbeing.

As a mainstream school, we give effective provision for children with special education needs including those with:

  • Communication and Interaction Needs
  • Cognition and Learning Needs
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs
  • Sensory and/or Physical  Needs

If required, school will refer children to outside agencies to get additional advice and support. Some of the services we have involvement from include: Educational Psychologists, CAMHS (Child and adolescent mental health services), The Inclusion Service, Speech and Language Therapy, Hearing Impairment Services.

LCC's Local Offer

The Local Offer is a collection of information about the facilities and agencies available for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.  The information is intended to provide parents with more information about the places where they can find support for their children and young people with SEND.  It also serves to enable agencies to work together through signposting parents to different types of support.
